{"id":242,"date":"2014-02-07T03:39:00","date_gmt":"2014-02-07T03:39:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/?page_id=242"},"modified":"2017-12-17T11:01:39","modified_gmt":"2017-12-17T17:01:39","slug":"planning-ahead","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/?page_id=242","title":{"rendered":"Planning ahead"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s always good to plan ahead when you are building anything. \u00a0In a lot of cases you lose access to certain parts when you glue other parts on top of them. \u00a0Here&#8217;s a list of the very basic things that you might want to remember.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 16px;\">Drill for your wing retaining dowel before you install the windshield (or chin block on a low-winger.)<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Seal the wood on the inside of the nose section before installing the fuel tank and radio.<\/li>\n<li>Decide what kind of push rods you are using, and lay out their locations before closing the fuselage tail section.<\/li>\n<li>Drill your firewall for nose gear block, engine mount, and control cables, and install the blind nuts on the inside, before attaching it to the fuselage.<\/li>\n<li>Plan the vertical placement of your servos and mark the inside of the fuselage sides for mounting rails before assembling the fuselage.<\/li>\n<li>Cover the tail surfaces and fuselage with Monokote before gluing them all together.<\/li>\n<li>Decide whether you want to mount the wing with rubber bands or bolts before you start putting it together.<\/li>\n<li>If using rubber bands to mount the wings, drill the holes in the fuselage sides for the dowels before assembling the fuselage.<\/li>\n<li>If using a receiver with a long antenna, install an antenna tube before closing up the fuselage.<\/li>\n<li>Install dihedral braces before installing top wing sheeting.<\/li>\n<li>It&#8217;s a lot easier to handle a short part than a long one while you&#8217;re sanding the wing tips, so build your wing tips before joining the two halves.<\/li>\n<li>To avoid laying out your plans and picking them up repeatedly, cut out the parts all at once, then put them together all at once.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I&#8217;m sure there are a lot more items to put on this list. \u00a0If I think of more good ones I&#8217;ll add them. \u00a0If you have any suggestions, send them to me in an email and I&#8217;ll add the ones that seem like a good idea.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s always good to plan ahead when you are building anything. \u00a0In a lot of cases you lose access to certain parts when you glue other parts on top of them. \u00a0Here&#8217;s a list of the very basic things that &hellip; <a class=\"more-link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/?page_id=242\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"parent":25,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/pages\/242"}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/pages"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/page"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=242"}],"version-history":[{"count":5,"href":"http:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/pages\/242\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":2366,"href":"http:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/pages\/242\/revisions\/2366"}],"up":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/pages\/25"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=242"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
