{"id":5385,"date":"2023-05-15T01:13:17","date_gmt":"2023-05-15T06:13:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/?post_type=product&#038;p=5385"},"modified":"2023-05-30T13:40:02","modified_gmt":"2023-05-30T18:40:02","slug":"ace-alpha-short-kit","status":"publish","type":"product","link":"https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/?product=ace-alpha-short-kit","title":{"rendered":"Ace Alpha Short Kit"},"content":{"rendered":"<header class=\"entry-header\">This cute little trainer from Ace RC was originally equipped with a foam wing. \u00a0My short kit has balsa ribs and two dihedral braces for either 3 channel or 4 channel operation. \u00a0You get both braces, so you can order the kit and decide later. \u00a0Use low dihedral (3 degrees) for flying with ailerons, or use high dihedral (6 degrees) for three channel flying.<\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>The wing ribs are designed for use with a 1\/4\u2033 balsa leading edge, 3\/16\u2033 x 3\/16\u2033 hard wood spars, and a 1\u2033 x 1\/4\u2033 balsa tapered trailing edge. \u00a0If flying with ailerons, use a 1\/4\u2033 balsa stick for the trailing edge and 3\/4\u2033 balsa ailerons.<\/p>\n<p>Look this plane up on Outerzone and you\u2019ll see that the plan\u00a0is not full size. \u00a0A lot of Ace kits with foam wings had 1\/2 or 3\/4 size plans, because the builder was supposed to use the plan as a reference for the fuselage, and the wing wasn\u2019t printed because it required no assembly. \u00a0Don\u2019t worry about trying to scale it correctly, because it doesn\u2019t matter. \u00a0In fact, you don\u2019t really need to print it if you can look at it on your computer screen. \u00a0The fuselage locks together with tabs and slots.<\/p>\n<p>To build the wing, mark the rib locations\u00a0on the leading edge, trailing edge, and spars\u00a0at two inch intervals. \u00a0If I were building this, I would\u00a0space the ribs at 2\u2033, and add one rib between the root rib and the next rib. \u00a0In other words, from the root the spacing would be 1\u2033, 1\u2033, 2\u2033, 2\u2033, 2\u2033, etc.\u00a0Draw two lines on your building table or on a large sheet of paper. \u00a0Make one line two feet long, and make a short perpendicular line at one end of the long line. \u00a0It should look like a big T or L. \u00a0Pin the trailing edge to the table, aligned with your first line. \u00a0Lay out the other sticks and the ribs. \u00a0Starting with the rib at the wing tip, place it\u00a0on the perpendicular line so it will be 90 degrees to the trailing edge. \u00a0Position\u00a0the spar and the leading edge and glue them to the tip\u00a0rib. \u00a0Pin the leading edge to the table. \u00a0Now when you add the other ribs and glue them on the marks on the leading edge, everything will be square. \u00a0(The reason you start with the tip rib is because you want the whole wing to be assembled and sturdy when you finally place the root rib at its correct dihedral angle.) \u00a0Add some 1\/16\u2033 balsa shear webs for extra strength. \u00a0Add some flat sheet tips, or use 1\u2033 triangle stock for hoerner tips, or whatever floats your boat.<\/p>\n<p>Trimmed ribs are provided, so you can have 1\/16\u2033 balsa sheeting on top and bottom in the center section and open structure in the outer panels, or you can ignore the trimmed ribs and just have open structure in the whole wing if you prefer.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This cute little trainer from Ace RC was originally equipped with a foam wing. \u00a0My short kit has balsa ribs and two dihedral braces for either 3 channel or 4 channel operation. \u00a0You get both braces, so you can order &hellip; <a class=\"more-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/?product=ace-alpha-short-kit\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":3414,"template":"","meta":[],"product_cat":[31],"product_tag":[71,62],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/product\/5385"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/product"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/product"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/media\/3414"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=5385"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"product_cat","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fproduct_cat&post=5385"},{"taxonomy":"product_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fproduct_tag&post=5385"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
