{"id":5422,"date":"2023-05-15T20:28:42","date_gmt":"2023-05-16T01:28:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/?post_type=product&#038;p=5422"},"modified":"2025-09-24T14:29:34","modified_gmt":"2025-09-24T19:29:34","slug":"dirty-birdy-40","status":"publish","type":"product","link":"https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/?product=dirty-birdy-40","title":{"rendered":"Dirty Birdy 40 Short Kit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Red plane built by Bob Moulder.<\/p>\n<p>Please note that the wing saddle in my kit does not look like the plan.\u00a0 We all love Joe Bridi, and his designs are legendary, but I can\u2019t figure out why he drew his plans to show the wing saddle the same size as the wing root.\u00a0 The wing root is inside the fuselage, so the wing saddle should be slightly smaller than the root because of the tapered wing.\u00a0 My kit corrects this oversight.<\/p>\n<p>Another point to keep in mind is that the lower portion of the fuselage nose is made of big thick planks that are to be carved and sanded by the builder.\u00a0 These planks sit in front of Bulkhead #2, thus leaving the sides of Bulkhead #2 naked below the fuselage side.\u00a0 Rather than make the side with a piece of balsa hanging down where it&#8217;s susceptible to damage, I made this piece separate.<\/p>\n<p>The altered wing saddle cutout and the extra little piece of 3\/16\u2033 balsa are shown in the following diagram:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/40dirtybirdyfuselage1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5019\" src=\"http:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/40dirtybirdyfuselage1.jpg\" sizes=\"(max-width: 792px) 100vw, 792px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/40dirtybirdyfuselage1.jpg 792w, https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/40dirtybirdyfuselage1-600x292.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/40dirtybirdyfuselage1-300x146.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/40dirtybirdyfuselage1-768x374.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/40dirtybirdyfuselage1-500x244.jpg 500w\" alt=\"40dirtybirdyfuselage1\" width=\"792\" height=\"386\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Red plane built by Bob Moulder.
