{"id":5485,"date":"2023-05-16T14:19:33","date_gmt":"2023-05-16T19:19:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/?post_type=product&#038;p=5485"},"modified":"2023-05-21T23:42:34","modified_gmt":"2023-05-22T04:42:34","slug":"5485","status":"publish","type":"product","link":"https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/?product=5485","title":{"rendered":"Super Aeromaster Short Kit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This kit is made from the Great Planes plan, not the original Lou Andrews plan. \u00a0Several minor modifications have been made for simplicity as well as to make use of readily available materials.<\/p>\n<p>The Box Lok fuselage doublers in the original kit were 5\/16 thick balsa with\u00a03\/16 inch deep grooves to accommodate a 3\/16 thick hard wood brace for the cabane struts. \u00a0My doubler is 5\/16 balsa, but instead of grooves the balsa is cut all the way through to accommodate a 5\/16 inch thick hardwood brace for the cabanes. \u00a0The builder will install the main doubler, then add the cabane braces, then add the small doubler that goes between the cabane braces. \u00a0The braces are 5\/16 x 5\/8 hardwood landing gear blocks with 1\/8 inch groove, from Sig Mfg. \u00a0Sig part number SIGSH655. \u00a0WHEN INSTALLING THE DOUBLER, LEAVE A QUARTER INCH SPACE AT THE FRONT FOR THE FIREWALL. \u00a0My firewall fits between the fuselage sides, in front of the Box Lok doubler.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/aeromaster.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3052\" src=\"http:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/aeromaster.jpg\" sizes=\"(max-width: 399px) 100vw, 399px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/aeromaster.jpg 399w, https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/aeromaster-300x191.jpg 300w\" alt=\"aeromaster\" width=\"399\" height=\"254\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The blocks in the top wing where the cabanes attach are 1\/2 x 3\/4.<\/p>\n<p>The firewall also differs from the plan. \u00a0The plan shows a square plywood firewall with a balsa arch on top. \u00a0In my kit the arch is part of the plywood firewall. \u00a0The quarter inch firewall is made of two layers of 1\/8 inch plywood laminated together. \u00a0The front layer has no notches. \u00a0The back layer is notched for the stringers that form the top deck. \u00a0The balsa sheeting of the top deck is to be installed on top of both layers of the firewall.<\/p>\n<p>How to finish the front of the cowl is builder\u2019s choice. \u00a0The original kit had a plastic front for the cowl. \u00a0You could laminate layers of balsa wood on and sand to shape, build a mold from foam for a glass cowl, or just build a Lou Andrews style cowl from balsa blocks.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4453\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-4453\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Aeromasters in the gallery images were built by Dave Scott and Bill Kirkpatrick.\u00a0 The cowls in the photos came from Fiberglass Specialties, Number GP-7.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This kit is made from the Great Planes plan, not the original Lou Andrews plan. \u00a0Several minor modifications have been made for simplicity as well as to make use of readily available materials.
