{"id":5506,"date":"2023-05-16T23:29:29","date_gmt":"2023-05-17T04:29:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/?post_type=product&#038;p=5506"},"modified":"2024-12-19T00:12:04","modified_gmt":"2024-12-19T06:12:04","slug":"aerostar-60-short-kit","status":"publish","type":"product","link":"https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/?product=aerostar-60-short-kit","title":{"rendered":"Aerostar 60 Short Kit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Based on the discontinued kit from Midwest.<\/p>\n<p>Because the fuselage is longer than a standard piece of wood the fuselage sides are spliced, as they were in the original kit.\u00a0 The short kit includes a pair of lite ply rectangles to bridge the splice.<\/p>\n<p>Also included are an assortment of birch ply rectangles that are intended to be stacked to make the landing gear block that was included in the original kit.\u00a0 The first layer is 1\/8\u2033, then a layer of 1\/16\u2033, then two layers of 1\/8\u2033.\u00a0 These are sized to form a set of stair steps behind the diagonal bulkhead.\u00a0 Use your own hard wood blocks to make the upper landing gear blocks.<\/p>\n<p>The manual does not quote a specific dihedral angle, so I extrapolated from the dimension given in the Aerostar 40 manual and arrived at a figure of 3.5 inches elevation at one tip, with the other wing panel flat on the table.<\/p>\n<p>The wing was designed with the spars placed well in front of the center of gravity to allow the use of a narrow piece of sheeting between the leading edge and the spar.\u00a0 The disadvantage to this scheme is that the center of gravity is not at the spar.\u00a0 You can get standard ribs as shown on the plan, or you have the option of ordering the kit with the spar notches placed so the center of gravity is at the trailing edge of the spar.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/60aerostarribs2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5128\" src=\"http:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/60aerostarribs2.jpg\" sizes=\"(max-width: 773px) 100vw, 773px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/60aerostarribs2.jpg 773w, https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/60aerostarribs2-600x182.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/60aerostarribs2-300x91.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/60aerostarribs2-768x233.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/60aerostarribs2-500x152.jpg 500w\" alt=\"60aerostarribs2\" width=\"773\" height=\"235\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to Martin Kolm for the photos of his Aerostar 60.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Based on the discontinued kit from Midwest.
