{"id":5523,"date":"2023-05-17T00:19:09","date_gmt":"2023-05-17T05:19:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/?post_type=product&#038;p=5523"},"modified":"2026-01-12T23:13:58","modified_gmt":"2026-01-13T05:13:58","slug":"5523","status":"publish","type":"product","link":"https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/?product=5523","title":{"rendered":"Baby Bipe Short Kit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is the Baby Bipe by Don Prentice, published in Model Airplane News. \u00a0The plan shows the top wing mounted on a pylon and secured by two screws that go down from the top of the wing, between the two center ribs. \u00a0There are outboard struts to prevent the top wing from rocking.<\/p>\n<p>In my kit I\u2019ve changed from the old fashioned full depth spars shown on the plan to modern top-and-bottom spars of 3\/16\u2033 square bass or spruce. \u00a0Two center ribs made of 1\/8\u2033 birch ply are provided for extra strength in the wing mounting structure. \u00a0You can place these ribs as shown on the plan, to provide a space in between for the mounting screws, or you can use the same top wing mounting method that I used in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/?page_id=6003\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">my modified version of the RCM Basic Bipe<\/a>. \u00a0In this case you would laminate the two plywood ribs together and place them on the centerline.<\/p>\n<p>Outboard struts are not provided because of irregularities that occur in building. \u00a0My preference is to make them from 2-56 push rods with clevises, and encase them in balsa sticks if desired.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_5238\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-5238\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Thanks to Kevin Wilfong for the photo of the red and yellow plane.\u00a0 I built the red and white Baby Bipe for my local flying buddy.
