{"id":5557,"date":"2023-05-17T17:48:33","date_gmt":"2023-05-17T22:48:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/?post_type=product&#038;p=5557"},"modified":"2023-05-21T13:02:40","modified_gmt":"2023-05-21T18:02:40","slug":"baby-bi-short-kit","status":"publish","type":"product","link":"https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/?product=baby-bi-short-kit","title":{"rendered":"Baby Bi Short Kit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>RCM Baby Bi. \u00a0This is a nifty plane that\u2019s easy to build. \u00a0The RCM construction article says the airfoil is semi symmetrical, but the airfoil on the plan really looks symmetrical to me. \u00a0The tail and engine are on the centerline between the top and bottom wings, so it\u2019s set up like a pattern plane and has some of the flight characteristics of a pattern plane. \u00a0But as a short, stubby little biplane it should be capable of some wild and crazy maneuvers that pattern planes won\u2019t do.<\/p>\n<p>There are a few weird quirks in this design, and I have changed a few of them for the convenience of the builder.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The plan shows a plywood windshield. \u00a0That seems excessive. \u00a0Use firm 1\/8\u2033 balsa, put triangle stock in the corners, and round the edges to make it look like a windshield.<\/li>\n<li>The plan shows a one piece wire landing gear sandwiched between thin plywood bulkheads. \u00a0My kit includes a single bulkhead and a plywood chin plate. \u00a0Put these parts together in the normal fashion, add some triangle stock for strength, and mount a wire or aluminum landing gear to the chin plate.<\/li>\n<li>The plan shows the wings held on by rubber bands. \u00a0Go ahead and do it this way if you prefer, but the kit includes some parts for bolting the wings on. \u00a0Build the wings with the slotted balsa rib in the center. \u00a0Attach a lite ply half rib to each side of the center rib. \u00a0Attach a lite ply half rib to each of the ribs adjacent to the center rib. \u00a0Slide the included 1\/8\u2033 ply bolt plate into the slot. \u00a0 Add some balsa to fill the space between the plate and the sheeting, then add the sheeting and the leading edge. \u00a0Place some hard wood blocks in the fuselage to receive the bolts. \u00a0Drill through the bolt plate into the fuselage blocks to install the bolts.<\/li>\n<li>The plan calls for 1\/8\u2033 balsa fuselage sides. \u00a01\/8\u2033 lite ply sides are provided in the kit for ease of building. \u00a0The kit also includes 1\/4\u2033 balsa cowl sides, which can be sanded to create rounded contours in the cowling.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Don\u2019t hesitate to ask any questions you may have.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>RCM Baby Bi. \u00a0This is a nifty plane that\u2019s easy to build. \u00a0The RCM construction article says the airfoil is semi symmetrical, but the airfoil on the plan really looks symmetrical to me. \u00a0The tail and engine are on the &hellip; <a class=\"more-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/?product=baby-bi-short-kit\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":3375,"template":"","meta":[],"product_cat":[34],"product_tag":[58],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/product\/5557"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/product"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/product"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/media\/3375"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=5557"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"product_cat","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fproduct_cat&post=5557"},{"taxonomy":"product_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fproduct_tag&post=5557"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
