{"id":5615,"date":"2023-05-18T00:18:18","date_gmt":"2023-05-18T05:18:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/?post_type=product&#038;p=5615"},"modified":"2025-09-24T12:24:39","modified_gmt":"2025-09-24T17:24:39","slug":"miss-bikini-short-kit","status":"publish","type":"product","link":"https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/?product=miss-bikini-short-kit","title":{"rendered":"Miss Bikini Short Kit"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_3089\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-3089\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">This is Chuck Cunningham\u2019s Miss Bikini from RCM magazine.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>This great looking plane was published by RCM Magazine in 1969. \u00a0I built one\u00a0in 2003 when I was flying at a public field in Kansas City. \u00a0In those days I used to pass the transmitter around a lot because I liked to see my planes flown by better pilots. \u00a0Everybody who flew the Miss Bikini said the same thing: \u00a0\u201cThis is the best flying plane I\u2019ve ever flown!\u201d \u00a0That\u2019s no exaggeration. \u00a0They really said that.<\/p>\n<p>Because it was designed in 1969 the Miss Bikini plan shows a few features that are not so commonly found in later airplanes. \u00a0I have made the\u00a0executive decision to update some of these construction details for your convenience, as listed below:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On the plan, bulkhead F2\u00a0extends below the chin block, so you would apply your covering film directly to the bottom edge of this bulkhead. \u00a0I\u2019m not fond of this feature, so my bulkhead is shortened and the chin block covers the bottom of it. \u00a0Look at the bulkhead\/chin juncture on the Cloud Dancer plan to see what I mean.<\/li>\n<li>I added notches for putting a 1\/8 x 1\/4 stick in the top of the front deck, so you have something to glue your sheeting to in the middle.<\/li>\n<li>My\u00a0cockpit floor fills the entire space between F3 and F4. \u00a0It is made of lite ply, and it fits between the fuselage sides instead of on top of them.<\/li>\n<li>I cut a big hole in F2 for your battery, fuel tank, car keys or whatever you want to put in there.<\/li>\n<li>The plan shows the wing with old fashioned full depth sheet wood spars. \u00a0Because of the inconsistency of balsa wood, I can\u2019t count on always having super hard 1\/8\u2033 balsa available, so my ribs are cut with notches for modern conventional 3\/16 x 3\/16 hardwood spars top and bottom. \u00a0Use bass or spruce. \u00a0You should also bridge between the top and bottom spars with\u00a01\/16 or 3\/32 balsa shear webs.<\/li>\n<li>Plywood dihedral braces are supplied. \u00a0You can trim the center ribs and use these braces, or you can just stick the two sides together and glass the center section the way the Kaos is done.<\/li>\n<li>And the last detail about the wing is that the rib spacing shown on the plan is pretty wacky. \u00a0I wouldn\u2019t do it that way. \u00a0I\u2019m supplying plenty of ribs so you can space the ribs however you see fit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is Chuck Cunningham\u2019s Miss Bikini from RCM magazine.
