{"id":5669,"date":"2023-05-18T12:04:58","date_gmt":"2023-05-18T17:04:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/?post_type=product&#038;p=5669"},"modified":"2026-01-29T18:46:05","modified_gmt":"2026-01-30T00:46:05","slug":"small-wonder-short-kit","status":"publish","type":"product","link":"https:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/?product=small-wonder-short-kit","title":{"rendered":"Small Wonder Short Kit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This kit includes\u00a0three dihedral braces: \u00a0the two that are shown on the plan, plus an extra one for the back side of the leading edge to increase the strength of the center joint.<\/p>\n<p>You can order the kit as shown on the plan or with barn door ailerons. \u00a0Here\u2019s a file I drew for the layout of the aileron wing. \u00a0(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.balsaworkbench.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/altwing.pdf\">altwing<\/a>) \u00a0I have built the Small Wonder both ways, and it flies great either way. \u00a0However, there is one funny thing about the plan as designed. \u00a0It is a three channel airplane but I think the dihedral angle is a little bit low for optimal performance. \u00a0When I built mine I increased the dihedral a little bit in the three channel versions.<\/p>\n<p>You can choose parts for 3.75 degrees per side as shown on the plan, or for 6 degrees per side for improved roll coupling with three channels. \u00a0The only difference is the angle of the dihedral braces and the dihedral gauge. \u00a0When you build the wing, 6 degrees per side translates to 2 5\/16\u2033 at each tip, or 4 5\/8\u2033 on one tip with the other wing flat on the table.\u00a0 But you can do it however you want.\u00a0 You don&#8217;t have to do it my way.<\/p>\n<p>Please choose your options as listed below:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>3 channel or barn door ailerons<\/li>\n<li>Dihedral standard 3.75 degrees per side or increased to 6 degrees per side<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For comprehensive building instructions download the <a href=\"file:\/\/\/C:\/Users\/Mergatroid\/Downloads\/Small_Wonder_RCM673_oz5581_article.pdf\">original RCM article from Outerzone<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This kit includes\u00a0three dihedral braces: \u00a0the two that are shown on the plan, plus an extra one for the back side of the leading edge to increase the strength of the center joint.
