My O My Short Kit

Description

When the My O My was published in RCM, in the construction article Doc Mathews said the following:

“Her lineage has been a source of amusement for me. There are those who say she is a semi-scale Pober Pixie, or a Baby Ace, or maybe an obscure Old Timer or home-built. Others see an enlarged Q-Tee or a shrunken something-or-other. My reply to each claim has been: You are absolutely right.”

Doc Mathews was being sly. He knew exactly what the My O My was. Viewing the plan with my drafting software to draw the parts for laser cutting left no doubt in my mind what it was. It’s not a Pober Pixie or Baby Ace. It’s a 1.5 scale Q-Tee. I superimposed the parts from my Q-Tee kit, scaled up, onto the My O My plan, and it was a perfect match. Doc changed the construction details slightly and reshaped the tail to make it look less like a Q-Tee, but it’s a Q-Tee.

This is good news for anybody who loves the Q-Tee (doesn’t everybody?) and thinks it would be a good idea to scale it to 1.5 size. My short kit comes with parts to create the My O My tail outline, but I think it would be good for a chuckle to build it with a Q-Tee tail.

The plan shows the ribs with a slanted leading edge, but if you want the rib leading edge to be square let me know.  I can cut them either way.

The model in the gallery image was built by Ben Musolf.
